BROTHERHOOD pt I

Several months back, Mesmero in the form of Professor X recruited Simon Lasker to be Lydia Nance’s stooge as the new Pyro. Today their both in prison with fellow patsy, the new Avalanche. But Mesmero has figured out how to turn off the dampening collar and the two follow him as he walks right out the jail.

Come on, dipshits. Let's see if this works.

Meanwhile in New York, Storm stops Old Man Logan walking out. He’s taking his leave as lately he feels more like a liability than an asset. In the danger room, Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde find Rachel Summers training. Fresh from a coma, she reveals her old Hound scars have returned, as well as a new costume. As she’s suffered 2 massive traumas lately, Kurt’s worried about her. But her Hound memory flashes lately have never made her feel more alive.

Rachel, I'm sorry... but that's a really crappy tattoo.

Mesmero and friends attack Lydia on a yacht during a Heritage Initiative fundraiser. Kitty and her team begrudgingly plan to save them, even with bit player Magma’s help. Even the healing Prestige is in, with Kitty realizing the risk is all on her. As Pyro is about to fry Lydia, Storm hits Avalanche with a lightning bolt. Unfortunately as Amara is a little green, she tries to take out Mesmero herself. As Lydia uses the fight as another chance to pump up mutant evil, Mesmero is able to use the diversion to take out Prestige. With almost all of her team down, Kitty called it. What will happen next? We’ll have to wait to find out as this issue is left to be continued.

Cancel the entertainment.

With this book, I’m pretty quick to criticize when things are bad. But when things are good, it deserves equal recognition. Fresh off the snore-fest of the Negative Zone, Marc Guggenheim has things back on track. It’s wise to send Logan away since every other Marvel book on earth already features him. Recruiting some of the b-squad is always cool too, and Magma is much cooler than Ink, whom was largely featured in the last story arc. This was a pretty decent issue. I give it an 8/10..
