Spider-Man #237

SINISTER SIX REBORN pt IV

Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Penciled by Oscar Bazuldua
Cover by Patrick Brown
Published Feb 7, 2018

Miles wakes up to his uncle Aaron cooking breakfast for dinner, their old tradition. But before he can discuss things with his newest enemy, Miles bolts. Meanwhile his mom and dad work on getting back together. She has a hard time letting go of what he kept from her - that her son was Spider-Man. Their meeting is interrupted however as Miles bursts in.
He breaks the news that his uncle is alive and well, and although he can’t say more, needs them to go to Cleveland as soon as possible. They do so, and right there in the house already is the Iron Spider. Uncle Aaron explains that they need to talk. Across town, Bombshell wakes up on her mother’s couch with a request to pick up some more hooch. Lori tells Lana that until she's 18, she's hers. Taking part in her schemes is the only way to save Miles.
In New Jersey, Hobgoblin sneaks into the Helicarrier hanger, trying to get the drop on the sleeping Red Hulk and is immediately caught. Obviously frustrated, the rep-damaged supervillain spills his guts.
Back at the Morales apartment, Aaron tells Miles that he doesn't know how it happened. He just woke up in bed back alive. As part of some interdimensional hopping himself, Miles can empathize. He asks what heist Lana's mom was talking about, and Aaron and Miles come to a pseudo agreement: Spider-Man turns a blind eye and they leave Lana out of it. Either way, Uncle Aaron isn't Miles' responsibility.
The issue wraps in the dorm room of Danika Hart practicing for her next webcast. But before she starts, curiosity gets the better of her. She calls a mystery person and learns that revealing superhero secret identities is big business. What happens after that though will have to wait as this issue is left to be continued.
With only three issues left in the Bendis era, it's been rumored that Marvel super-writer and currently one of my faves Ed Brisson might be taking over. I've mentioned being a humongous fan of his on the other books he writes. Armed with such an interesting character as Miles Morales, it could be his big chance to break out. I hope it's true. For this one though, BMB is still crushing it with an amazing tale that really makes his exit that much sadder. I give it an 8/10.
