Jeannie awakens in the burnt up husk of her home. Taking no notice of it, she's late for work and walks out, without the mailman nor dead neighbor saying anything about it either. She talks with the paperboy on the sidewalk as he's engulfed in flames. But it's just a normal day in the world of Jean Gray.

I mean, yeah. That's normal.

Meanwhile in New Mexico, the X-Men stand at the portal debating what's inside. With Logan leading the way, they see a neighborhood in flames. Finally they turn and see an army of dead X-Men. The fight begins but they realize this group of their dead friends aren't real. Just an illusion designed to slow them down. As they continue walking they find Annie's Diner, with a nearly perfect symmetrical line at where the fire ends.

Oh and that's normal too.

Jean brings out the trash and they see her, but she doesn't hear them. Inside the diner, she sits with her boss Annie and describes the weird dream she had. Herself as a goddess, but trying to prepare herself for something.

I have the same dream sometimes.

Outside Beast describes as the entire realm being an egg the Phoenix created, incubating Jean to merge with her but killing everyone else in the process. Inside her conversation continues as the X-Men debate it's purpose. It let them inside because it could do less damage in there as opposed to outside. As the massive, fire engulfed beast appears and stares at them, it appears that their next more will be paramount.

Hey everybody! I missed you all!

Kitty explains they need to send someone in to talk. Cyclops volunteers but as they all discuss, feel Logan would be more appropriate. He walks towards the diner with the huge, flaming bird staring at him. What will happen next? We'll have to wait as this issue is left to be concluded.

I think this warrants a call to the health inspector.

So with one more issue left, this miniseries is definitely ramping up to the final chapter. That's surprising to me that they'd save the best for last. Still, the story has finally gotten more intricate the X-Men build towards solving the problem. Where is Jean, why is the Phoenix here, and what does it intend to do with her? I really can't wait to see how they wrap it all up. I give this one a 10/10.
