As Logan lies helplessly on the ground, Mariko holds her own vs the Hand soldiers. Slowly Gorgon gets to his feet and demands she stop. He puts a blade to Logan's back and drives it through his chest, forcing the animal within to claw at the Hand leader before collapsing yet again. Gorgon holds the blade over him when Mariko jumps in.

Alllll my liiiiife, I prayed for someone liiiiiiiiiiiiiiike you...

All her life she's been commanded by men like Gorgon, but no more. He uses his precognition skills but she overpowers him. But before she can execute him, a Hand soldier stops the sword and they drag him away.
She picks up the unhealing Logan before looking back at the safe full of Regenix. Suddenly he pops up, confused and on a passenger boat next to her. She explains that she had to give him the drug, which explains the adrenaline, because she couldn't stop his bleeding. With all of his scars and wounds erased, he thanks her.

Thanks for all that meth, Mariko.

Back at the alarm ringing Yashida Corporation, Shingen suits up but finds Logan and Mariko destroying his lab. He explains it isn't Regenix he's making, but a cure for Planter Fascitis. Logan goes on to ask him about the orphaned girl he created in the whole thing, and he tells him the kid is set for life.

Bone Claws. Gross.

The issue wraps with Mariko telling Old Man Logan that she's finally free to live her life. Free from the Clan Yashida, free from the Hand. She walks the streets of Tokyo with the oldest love of her life and gives him a gift to save for emergencies. With that, he watches her walk away. Later that night, he walks by a bar and a man goes flying through the front window as this story arc is finally concluded.

Not again!

Even though this was pretty much an epilogue of the previous story, it's always bittersweet to see the old man get a chance to glimpse into his past. Just like he himself says, it's nostalgia. The reminder of a time when things were better. I give a lot of these writers a hard time for rehashing old characters but Ed Brisson does it with such class, I have no choice but to allow it. And even better, really enjoy it. I give this one a 9/10.
