5000 years in the future, the last Inhuman walks among the new life forms as they emerge from their cocoons. Directed by the sleepers, they seek out threats and look to the sky as they see a cloud drifting towards them. But in the present, the former Royal family's ship glides along while the now dying Medusa addresses them all. Gorgon refuses to accept the news and tells her that she will always be his queen. An irritated Blackbot walks away as Medusa explains his recent mood swings. Crystal reveals the trace terrigen in her blood is attacking itself while Marvel Boy declares it a poetic justice. Suddenly Flint has a flashback to a painful episode in his life, and he leaves the room. Medusa tells Gorgon to go after him when Swain breaks in with some dire news.
The Astarion drifts towards a cloud of evil looking aliens. A Chitari Swarm. Medusa declares herself well enough to fight and she gets out of the bed and into uniform. She takes charge, ordering Swain to pilot towards the horde while Marvel Boy and Crystal prepare to fight. The two of them work in tandem, blowing the creatures away while on the planets hull, Gorgon gets a few licks in as well but Flint's powers are mostly useless in space. Medusa radios to him and gives him a little pep-talk. He reaches out and grabs a massive field around Pluto, entrapping the chitari.
Back onboard, Noh-Varr is amazed and Medusa tells him she thinks big. Swain declares the threat neutralized and gives the order to throttle up. The team wonders where the now trapped chitari are headed when Medusa tells them that the Inhumans have their own problems. "Blackbolt" is actually an intruder. Maximus the Mad introduces himself to the rest of the squad and tells his sister-in-law he's at her service. With that, we're left to be continued.
This series is getting off to a good start. The past few Inhuman books needed new blood and Al Ewing is doing some good work. As the former royal family rides around in space, fights with the Kree probably loom if I had to guess. Not a whole lot transpired in this issue, other than learning that Blackbolt is apparently not onboard and now we'll have to watch everyone deal with Maximus and his smarmy one-liners. Either way, I thought it was a decent read and I give it a 7/10..
