X-Men Gold #9

In Russia, a group of mystics convene to work on Omega Red's remains while in America, Russian ex-Pat Anton Vanko aka Whiplash prepares for revenge.
Omega Dead.

Meanwhile, Kitty prepares to head for DC and clearly sending mixed messages on their past romance, asks Colossus to accompany her. They're not the only confused ones as Kurt and Rachel also tapdance around their flirty exchanges.
Blue Lives Matter, Rach.

When Kitty and Peter arrive in the nations capitol, they're greeted by her former dance teacher turned congresswoman Stevie Hunter. As the reason for her being called to testify, she brings them to the capital where Kitty testifies against the Mutant Deportation Act, which if memory serves me, has been brought up about 50 thousand times. From DC to New York, both couples appear to be on dinner dates. Both appear to be moving forward with eventually Colossus broaching the subject of marriage.
This was the point where I started to doubt whether Mark Guggenheim knows how relationships work.

The next day during testimony, the wall explodes and in runs Whiplash. A fight ensues and Kitty and an unarmed Peter eventually defeat the Russian terrorist and save the target of his anger, Congressman Zelman. That night, Peter and Kitty walk the mall and the two get close. Later back in Stevie's office, she breaks the news to them that the deportation act is going to pass the house.
The issue wraps with a somewhat zombiefied version of Omega Red rising from the dead, though as the magicians surrounding him put it, only temporarily. What will happen next will need to wait however, as this issue is left to be continued.
Wait for it... Ok.. Here it goes:
"OMEGA UNDEAD!"

Pretty decent issue. There was a good mix of action and romance, though the interaction between Peter and Kitty is awkward. I'm not sure if Marc Guggenheim just might not know how to phrase it, or whether one can kinda chalk it up to Peter's foreign tendencies. Still I think he's been in the US long enough to figure Kitty out. Where they're going with it, who's to say? I give this one a 9/10.
