Outside a future New York, the future children of the Justice League look for their enemy Curry while avoiding the ruling demonic warlord, Sovereign. They all rally together and prepare to fight when he appears, attacking immediately. Rejected by Atlantis, he's now kept alive by wearing Cyborg's old cybernetic body. He doesn't want to fight them all but will if cornered.
Wait - when did Cable go DC?! |
Eventually they have him contained but as soon as their guard is down, realize he's wearing a dark ring and uses it to destroy a near by building. Using what looks like lantern light energy, they try and stop it but he opens a boom tube and escapes. Devoid of resources and out of energy, they have to regroup. They walk outside the old Infinity Corp Building and scale it. Once inside, they spot the singing crystals but the building and it's contents are largely wrecked. Finally they spot Vincent's body but sense his presence. The monitor flickers to life, instructing them to listen to the crystals but the message is short lived....
Look - guys! It's about to get hectic and... meh. You can handle it. |
Sovereign explodes into flames outside the building. Threatening certain death and suffering, they stand their ground and prepare to get the stones singing to teleport. As the fight intensifies, several of them work toghether to keep her from killing them instantly. Finally a portal opens, and though it takes some motivation, they get each member towards it.
Meanwhile in the present, Midway City smolders. The Justice League gathers to make sense of it. Recently the entire population somehow developed superpowers and split on religious lines, used them to kill each other. Wonder Woman is distraught. How do they fight each day to save people but still society just continues to devalue life. She's ready to give up when a portal opens above them. Escaped from Sovereign the young heroes collapse at their feet. They've found the Justice League and they give them the bad news, billions are dead.. and it's all their fault. With that, this issue is left to be continued.
It's all YOUR fault! |
I don't read many DC books, but the ones I do seem to be obsessed with leaping around timelines with such little explanation, that it's hard to keep up with. With this book, an entire premise based on characters we've never seen before plays out and we're left to try and figure out what's going on. I'm not a fan of that in comic books but as long as I plan on being a fan of the members of the Justice League, I guess I better get used to it. I give this one a 7/10.
