KOLOGOTH

Written by Marc Guggenheim

Published Sept 20, 2017

The mutant Kologoth was born a mutant on a strange planet called Dartayus to unwilling parents. The father takes the creature to a countryside and leaves him for dead, too weak to kill it but leaving a dagger at its feet. Through the years it learned to hunt... learned to survive. Time passed and eventually the homeland people’s world crept into his own. He watched and learned from them. After he’d reached the point where there was nothing left to learn, he butchered them...save for one. He was called Augor, and he gave Kologoth his name.
Ok... You look cool. I'll let you fill my head with propagnda.

Augor was part of a secret society of dissidents. He taught Kologoth that the underground was rough but it was already a lesson he’d learned from his parents. He tracks them and after killing his father, his mother tells him they were young. He leaves the dagger in her and begins a life of brutality.
This is for that thing you did back in the day.

Kologoth begins bringing up tales of an old fallen god. The more he talks, the more people listen. Eventually he creates an army and challenges the government although he makes a mistake. Assuming the parliament is weaker than they are. They defeat him and put him on trial. He’s cast out. Only this time he’s banished far from his own planet. He finds himself on earth.
Lydia Nance, leader of the Heritage Iniative, pays the guard off and takes custody of the beast. She brings him to Mesmero and with orders to quickly get him whipped into shape like the others. He does as he’s told and links minds with Kologoth. With both of them learning much about each other’s world, he bides his time. Later they attack with the other new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, still at the behest of Mesmero, Kologoth learns the humans are more than capable fighters.
These dudes are pretty good.

He knew they wouldn’t win, and so he bided his time. He’s captured but is eventually liberated by an assasin who infiltrates the mansion and discovers his true non-mutant identity. His siege is a distraction which allows the alien to contact his home world. Augor informs him his absence has curried the war at home in his favor. More than happy by the promise of things to come, he's set to wait again for the perfect moment to strike.
The issue wraps in Mojoworld, where minions draw straws on who will have to deliver the quaterly ratings to Mojo. Bob begins to explain to the spineless monster, but is quickly taken out. Instead, he monologues and sheds light on an Epic Crossover right around the corner. What it entails will have to wait though, as this issue is left to be continued.
Spoiler alert...

As with a lot of these issues wrapping before Marvel Legacy, this one is once again a one shot. Kologoth wasn't someone I expected to get his own origin issue but to be honest, I thought it was warranted. Marc Guggenheim has been a surprising addition to the X-Family and though he started slow, he's really made this book a destination title. I give this one a 9/10.
