Doctors Victor Von Doom and Strange battle the demon lord Mephisto, vowing revenge for deceiving him about news of his mother and Reed Richards. What happens next is literally a 5 page dialogue outburst that rounds every corner of the fourth wall. Essentially evidence that Bendis knows this series is over and I guess he doesn’t really expect anyone to read it. Finally Ben Grimm orders Commander Carter’s SHIELD agents back from what obviously seems like the devil’s meddling.
It's probably the devil. |
Doom demands to know what he’s done to his mother. He tells him as Richards it’s just the same thing Doom himself has been doing for years. Victor blasts him with all of his might, finally seeing the construct of his mother that Mephisto built. Pure at heart but still basically being artificial, he reaches out to her and Strange reminds him that it’s just an illusion. It fades away and we see a heartbroken and emotional Doom.
That WAS unpleasant. But you're welcome. |
He thanks Dr Strange and immediately Commander Carter moves to incarcerate him. That is before he mentions he was planning on bringing down a Hydra Science Island. Grimm offers his objections, mentioning that it’s always about Doom. Even if Mephisto was involved, even if Reed Richards was an illusion, it’s always Doom. He moves to smash Victor and without warning, Doom teleports him to a hidden bungalow in Amsterdam with a vacation offer - along with some outstanding bourbon to go along with it.
BOOZE! |
Back on the ground, Carter tries to figure out what’s going on. Dr. Strange assures her that Ben Grimm is probably fine. Not to mention that the promise of delivering a Hydra science island was probably legit. At this point, we see Doom wreaking havoc on that very location as promised. The issue wraps with a series of criminals vowing revenge on Doom for breaking the code. Finally we see Dr. Amara Perara in a fellow doctor’s office. Asking if she’s just crazy, the doctor assures her that she’s pregnant. She looks shocked and surprised, and with that, this series comes to a conclusion.
It's your doctor... Doctor Chim Richalds... |
So the Infamous Iron Man has wrapped. With the mentions of Hydra, this book kind of silently issued a complete end to the secret empire story and a continuance to the missing Tony Stark. Obviously a Doctor Doom-Gone-Good figure was able to carry the mantle well for him and rot be honest, I think I like him more as Iron Man than I did Tony. It’s been a really interesting tale and overall I’m glad I read it. I’m sad to see it go. Still, for a conclusion, I think this issue left us hanging. I’d give the series a 10/10 overall but this last issue, I’d probably give it a 7/10.
