Tomoe asks Miles what he's doing in Tokyo. He thinks back to what his Uncle Aaron said - honesty is the best policy. You talk some game and every girl can see through it. And so honesty it is. He's there because he ran away from home. Things got a little crazy and now here he is.
Why you wanna know?! |
She asks where he got the tux and he said he just got it. Intrigued, lady Tomoe brings this interesting new guest to the rooftop. Asking her if all this is her dad's, she tells him that all of it is hers. As the talks get a little more intense, she tells him she's an inhuman, but he's a little reluctant to tell her much more and heads for a bathroom. There he dials his dad, whom he suspects was the source of the tux but he's informed otherwise. Jefferson tells him to get out of there, and speaks directly to whomever this mystery tux delivering party may be. Miles suits up as Spider-Man and makes a break for it while Jefferson gets a text. They set up a meeting but remind him that he should be proud of his son.
He's a good boy. |
Meanwhile Miles works his way through crawlspaces before he's shocked and falls to the ground. Disappointed to see her guest was a Spider-Man, she pulls his webshooters off him and orders an attack. Miles thinks back on the lessons of Jackie Chan. Attack the biggest guy first. With that, a melee breaks out and he's attacked from every direction but he holds his own. Finally he faces off against Tomoe and one solider left. He grabs the sword and suddenly his mega venom electrical powers are triggered. Exhausted, he and his date Tomoe lie motionless on the floor.
Sorry about that. Hope you're not dead... |
Back at the dorm, Ganke reads tales of his exploits when he walks in. He's brought him an electrosword, which Ganke immediately cuts a table in half with. Miles passes out asleep while in an undisclosed location. Jefferson meets with the providers of the tux. The future jumping Cable assures him that his son has quite a future in international espionage. Hoping to set up a future date to talk, we're left to wonder what's next as this issue is concluded.
Another quick Spider-tale from the mind of Brian Michael Bendis, and as usual this fast read didn't disappoint. The one thing this book does a great job of, and doesn't really get much credit for, is that you can relate to this kid. Miles Morales speaks to all of us, and as a modern spin on Peter Parker's origins in the go-go-60's, Bendis is able to continually keep readers interested and entertained. I give this one a 9/10.
