Peter heads for London for some damage control. He's about to go live on the air and Anna Marie Marconi tells him to make sure he doesn't run off mid interview like he usually does. The interviewer brings up all the bad press and he counters with all they did to counter it. She tells him it's not like their SHIELD but he battles back with the Goblin fight from the previous issue. She goes to Silver Sable via satellite who's able to confirm his description of events.. that is until their interrupted with breaking news... Aliens are attacking the city.
In comic books, breaking news must happen every 2 seconds.

She plays video of Captain Marvel leading the defense and Peter slowly rises from his seat. Anna motions him back into his chair. They're further interrupted because of a horde of villains attacking New York and a producer mentions to Pete they'll have to reschedule. On the way back to the car, Anna asks what it was he could really do and he relents, wondering aloud how it is Tony Stark is able to do all of this. She drops him back at Parker Industries to deal with some relationship issues and suddenly his spider sense goes haywire.
Where does he get those wonderful toys?

He whisks into his spidey-suit and walks to his office. There a crew of workers stares at him suspiciously and he asks where any of the familiar faces are. Sensing he's onto them, a loud "Hail Hydra" is announced and they attack, though he's able to deal with them rather easily. He hears a loud noise emanating from his office and a voice orders all of them to stand down. As he walks towards the office, he "fires" all of them and realizes he recognizes the voice. A once more re-incarnated Otto Octavious stands before him, now in full Hydra inspired Spider regalia. Peter mocks him and asks him what the deal is. Through all of their recent body transfers, Otto feels a kinship with him. He flat out tells him that he wants control of Parker Industries. All of its development occurred under Otto's eyes, and later in Brain's robot body, he continued manipulating markets in the company's favor. Pete tells him all of it was on the back of Webware which was all him and Otto dismisses it as all stolen tech. Peter is rattled but refuses the offer.
Ok. I thought it over. The answer is "no".

Doc Ock retaliates, and launches a dome over Manhattan. As disturbance was last seen at Peter's office, the blame will squarely be laid on his company. Spider-Man attacks and Otto easily deflects it. Spidey counters with throwing two full pots of coffee at the former mad scientist but just as he readies the knockout punch, the Secret Empire-tinged Tony Stark message rings through, telling them all Avengers are needed in DC. He decides to deal with Otto later and heads for the garage.
The issue ends with Sider-Man blasting off and heading for Washington when Otto and his new body walks through Times Square. He pushes a button and the entire Baxter Building collapses. Anna remarks that her date stood her up but flees in the destruction. Otto pays her bill. He talks about how everything is going to plan and with that, this issue is to be continued.
New York has experienced a rather high number of buildings falling down in the Marvel universe.

Isn't Spider-Man hitting Doctor Octupus with two pots of coffee just deliciously old school? I know we live in a world where Aunt May is now kicking it like modern day Jane Fonda, and the teenager that Pete was should actually be in his 70's, but comic book characters age differently. Dan Slott handles this book like the legacy title it really is and he does a great job. Otto Octavious never really went away and I for one was happy that happened. In fact, during Superior Spider-Man, Peter was the one who was in danger of no longer existing. But good always triumphs. I just hope Dan doesn't forget the strides that Otto made. He's not all bad. And neither is this book. I give it a 9/10.
