Invincible Iron Man #599

THE SEARCH FOR TONY STARK pt VIII

Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Penciled by Stefano Casselli and Alex Maleev
Cover by Chris Sprouse
Published April 25, 2018

A wounded Victor Von Doom awakens in Dr. Amara Perrara’s apartment. He asks again about their unborn child and it’s clear that Amara has no plans to include him in them. He thanks her for not calling the police and disappears.

"Gotta go!"

Meanwhile Mary Jane tries to console Tony’s mother. They discuss the upcoming coup from the Stark board and MJ eventually bids her goodbye. But what happens next is a complete surprise. Tony calls, and as Iron Man hovers outside the balcony, Amanda realizes her son has suffered a serious life adjustment. He takes off but leaves her a phone to keep him company.

"Call me maybe."

Back at Stark Industries, Erik Lynch is surprised by Parker Robbins, aka The Hood. They soon realize though they’re on the same side. Friday gives Riri a heads up on Tony’s whereabouts, while he speaks to his mother about his real father, Hydra double agent Jude. She murdered him to keep Tony away from Hydra.

This mom is a real killer.

Outside the storage facility, Riri and one of her teammates are flown against their will to meet the real Leonardo Da Vinci, somehow. The issue wraps with Amanda in her apartment thinking back to the murder when a man walks out of the shadows. Jude is apparently still alive and wants to meet his son. What happens next? We'll have to wait as this story and this series is left to be concluded.

Kurt Russell?!

So recently I've decided to part with all of my DC reviews until the company can learn that complimentary digital downloads aren't some hokey, flash in the pan thing. Scanning books takes too much time and quite frankly, I'm over it. So until they finally come around, I'm going to have to bid Mr. Bendis adieu for a bit. What he's been able to accomplish here, especially with this character, as well as Riri and even Doctor Doom... is nothing short of amazing. What thrills he's managed to take us on, and to his credit, he's done it one more time here with Iron Man. But the tale isn't finished. I can't wait to see what happens in his penultimate issue, #600. As well as this one, I give it a 9/10.
