Despicable Deadpool #300

THE MARVEL UNIVERSE KILLS DEADPOOL pt IV

Finally using the weird alien tech he'd gotten in the last $10 issue, Deadpool walks out his building and proceeds to make every single Marvel hero puke. From the Avengers to Daredevil to the Champions, Gerry Duggan literally spends the first 20 pages of this 80 page beast making everyone vomit at the very sight of Deadpool, that is until he finally meets the man himself.

Giant Man : Giant Puke.

With Cap and Preston hot on his trail, Gerry Duggan pulls up and actually trades lines with favorite sparring partner before eventually, Deadpool steals his car and blows him away.

Soooooo... then who wrote the rest of the issue?!

Meanwhile Wade's two pursuers drive towards the medical facility Wade is clearly headed for. Passing them on the interstate, Cap is able to take him out with his shield, but he leaps back on their car and puts it in park. He begins running but fires some shots in the air which of course, just so happens to hit Scott Adsit's spaceship.

DO YOU SEE?!?!

Finally Deadpool makes it to Butler's lab. He goes through chemical after chemical and connects scores of IV's while Captain America barks from outside that he's surrounded. Using thermal imaging, Preston figures out he's alone and just lounging, so they storm in and find him passed out. With the bags dripping, his memory is being slowly erased.

What a Deadpool thing to do.

Inside, he opens fire on everything. From the Deadpool cat to himself in front of Preston, Wolverine, Captain America, Shiklah, and even Ellie. Finally he finds himself in Hell with Coulson, but he's soon after rescued by an angelic version of himself.

Jane Foster?

Back in the real world, Cap transports Wade to the psyche ward and gives Preston the chance to walk away and go home. Cap looks up at a photo of himself, Logan and Deadpool from a lifetime ago..

Photograph. I don't want your photograph. I don't neeeeeed your photoooograph....

The issue wraps with Wade unfit to stand trial. He recovers in bed amongst several other patients until eventually a deranged kid named Freddie Manuel comes in. Wade’s had enough, and something snaps in him to snag the guy’s uniform. He whups up on the staff and eventually walks out the door, ready to begin anew. With that, the series is finally concluded except for a tiny epilogue. Deadpool 2099 is still alive, with his two once warring daughters and a Preston AI. They leap ahead for some future adventures, but the Gerry Dugan version officially comes to a close.

I remember this story arc... like this much (makes tiny gap between fingers)

Wow. What a comic book. While I haven’t been around for all seven of Gerry Duggan’s run, I’ve read enough Deadpool books to know that this one has got to be one of the very best. Not only did he pen these books, but a large portion of the Uncanny Avengers featuring DP’s Unity Squad. He even almost became synonymous with Captain America and Wolverine in some earlier adventures. I don’t know if Rob Liefeld has Gerry on speed dial, but the latter certainly took care of his character in an amazing way. Took a little while but he grew on me. I give this issue a 10/10.
