THE FINAL HOST

A million years ago, a bizarre and ragtag team called the first Avengers square off against the first celestial host. Now in the present, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America meet for drinks to discuss getting the band back together. Some more willing than others, they're interrupted by Tony's new AI, Motherboard who tells them there's some strange anomalies in Earth's near orbit.

Friday was less matter-of-fact. I like this new AI

Meanwhile Black Panther and Dr Strange search for some missing South African archaeologists when they come across some weird holes. Eventually they reveal some freaky alien type eggs that begin hatching and well... look pretty fierce. Speaking of, Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes struggles with inner demons when the earth below begins to crack. Similar insects attack as his head bursts into flame to fight back in his familiar, infernal form.

FLAME ON! (tm)

In outer space, Captain Marvel sees a celestial hand peering through a portal. It falls to earth and she manages to push the dead giant as far out to the coast as possible. Fresh on the scene, Cap, Thor and Iron Man arrive and are briefed on the hundreds of other falling giants. As Alpha Flight hurriedly announces the falling corpses, one very much alive and massively scary begins its approach.

Not dead.

The towering and terrifying Final Host looms above them, and even worse yet - it looks to have brought friends. With only one thing to do, Captain America sounds off to his crew. "Avengers Assemble" he yells as Earth's Mightiest Heroes gather once more. But what happens next? We'll have to wait to find out as this issue is left to be continued.

Some Assembly Required.

Well, in light of Marvel's newest reboot, it's a relief to see that the current flagship title seems to be in great hands. Jason Aaron has more than proved he's one of the best writers in their stable, and it's clear that Ed McGuiness and Mark Morales have brought their A-Game, pardon the pun. Avengers is set to deliver once more, and I for one couldn't be happier with what they're cooking with. It's off to a great start... I give this one a 10/10.
