Justice League #41

JUSTICE LOST pt III

Written by Christopher Priest
Penciled by Phillipe Briones
Cover by David Yardin
Published March 21, 2018

After helping Martian Manhunter, the Lanterns head towards Earth with Jessica sharing a secret about kissing Batman. Meanwhile, Deathstroke and new employer Matthew Bland watch from afar as Kamala and various tribespeople debate Superman while he protects the crashed Watchtower. They continue to argue that the wreck is now theirs.

Finders Keepers, Superman!

Flash and Cyborg of course talk race while Wonder Woman feeds the children. But the goodwill is interrupted by LexCorp pulling up. Elsewhere, Justice League superfan Joshua Christian is surprised by Aquaman in his apartment. But while he DID work on the Watchtower, he's not the fan they're looking for.

Aquaman's fallen on hard times.

Back in Africa, the League tells the Lexcorp commander to not intervene, but it turns out to be the Red Lion who immediately attacks them. They argue, with each lodging insults about their respective countries attacking others. But with the Fan's recent cyber-attacks, Cyborg becomes vulnerable as Flash points out the troops approaching.

"Who cares, Flash. Help me!!!"

At Lexcorp, Batman surprises the Fan. He tells the dark knight all he wanted to do was help them, later becoming a bit of a lingering problem. Elsewhere Flash zips around the troops disarming them. Wonder Woman gathers the children while Cyborg tells the Red Lion they just want their spaceship.

I bet Diana had a hard time with those "Save The Children" infomercials...

The issue ends with some punk kid blasting Superman with an AK while he and Wonder Woman argue over what to do. Problem is that the ricochet has riddled her with bullets. Red Lion throws Cyborg off the Watchtower wreck and drags him away. What happens next? We'll have to wait and see as this issue is left to be continued.

"Welcome to Pottery Barn.."

So there's just two more issues left of this volume of Justice League, and the way Priest is going, he looks like he plans to leave very little in the cupboard for the next writer up. And you know what? That's totally cool with me. Post New 52 and now Rebirth, it's time for a new start. But there's really no denying what he brought to this run. Deeper character development, more backstory, and even more conflict for our heroes to rise up against make this still one amazing book to beat. I give this one a 9/10.
