As Lois, Clark, Bruce, and Selene approach the gate at the Gotham Fair, they're refused entry for not being in a super hero themed costume. They decide it would be fun to switch costumes - well, everybody but Bruce. They huddle into the changing rooms and swap. Later, Catwoman uses her power of persuasion to bypass the no costume rule, and the foursome walk through ready to have a good time. Everybody but Bruce anyway.
Bruce "NO FUN ALLOWED" Wayne. |
They do things like eat corndogs, ride through the little make out boat thing, and hit some baseballs in the batting cage while the girls pass a flask back and forth and gossip, later having a sisterly moment about the upcoming Bat/Cat wedding. Suddenly a purse snatcher grabs Lois' purse and the ladies, obviously kind of hammered, laugh it off. Bruce takes a baseball and thanks to Clark's x-ray vision, and apparent physics prowess, knocks the thief out with it.
When all else fails, throw baseballs at petty criminals. |
Later they ride a Justice League themed ferris wheel and buy Batman and Superman balloons while they trade comments back and forth about the pros and cons of each's relationship. The issue leaves with congrats galore on the hero's couplings, but not without one last challenge. Clark is adamant Bruce could never get a hit off him, so they make their way to a local baseball diamond. There he winds up and Batman knocks it out of the park. With that, this issue is concluded.
Bruce almost had some fun. But nope. |
So this was a little conclusion to the 2 issue arc Tom King playfully started last issue, and you know, I dug it. Like I've said before, it's cool to see some of your favorite heroes get a little time to expand their characters. Batman rarely cuts loose and if anything, it's cool to see him get some nice chill time.. Or at least as chill as he can get. This book reminded me of some of the Superman books Peter Tomasi penned not that long back, and I really enjoy seeing some lesser fair for our favorite brooding Dark Knight. I give this one an 8/10.
