The X-Men suit up in technologically advanced new costumes, much to Logan's dismay, and board a special new shuttle thanks to Alpha Flight's Blue Marvel. With a mission to save Kitty and Nightcrawler, they take off. Meanwhile, Rachel Summers rests in a coma under the care of Dr. Reyes.
In the negative zone, Kologoth taunts a chained Kitty Pryde while Kurt sits in solitary confinement.
That's pretty low, jerkface. |
BAMFing would be a risk but one he might be willing to take. Elsewhere, the X-Men near their destination, though a little farther away than their intended target. The blue skinned locals run away but not in fear of their new guests - instead from the incoming air attack. Ink, Colossus, Storm, Armor and Logan return fire but are told that the battle isn't with them. They just so happened to land in a combat zone.
Logan tries to look as mean as possible while they talk a little shop. |
Later they meet up to discuss Kologoth, a once exiled dictator and his continuing war. The X-Men psi-link and decide to not take sides in a war. Instead, their only objective is to get their teammates back.
In the temple, Kologoth and Augor talk war plans - but more pressing, the earthers have come for their friends. They decide to make contact to return their comrades as to not disrupt their war. The issue wraps with Nightcrawler finally deciding he can wait no longer. He teleports from his cell, materializing with the arm of a statue piercing his body.
"Ok, that's it.. I can't take it anymore..." |
"OOOOH NO! BIG MISTAKE!!!" |
It appears bamfing without being able to see where you're going. What happens next though will have to unfortunately wait - as this issue is left to be continued.
You know, I've noticed that sometimes with these books, it's kind of a feast or famine bounceback from issue to issue. For the longest time, I compared Deadpool's book as a constant issue to issue swing, although that one has gotten remarkably better. Now it appears X-Men Gold is in a similar pendulum swing. The good news is that this was a good one, better than the previous issue, plus still with newer villains and new ways to fight them. I'm not sure how Nightcrawler's going to get out of this jam but I'm willing to wait to find out. I give this one an improved 7/10.
