Michonne's team nervously holds their hands up while Princess makes jokes. The soldiers keep their guns trained. Eugene explains they're here to speak with Stephanie, but she's apparently not authorized to speak fir the Commonwealth. Instead they're escorted to a lighted rail car to speak with Lance Hornsby, the groups' ambassador.
Wait, are you related to Bruce Hornsby? |
Eugene reiterates his demands, but Lance explains that there's a process and he orders a canvass of the area. It's clear that the travelers are united, a fact that pleases Lance as he appears to want to keep these new folks alive. They go through the interview and tell him they have no odd customs when the troops return with the horses. Princess didn't have a horse since she was picked up on the way. Lance is wary of the odd girl but is comfortable enough with her.
That's just the way it is. |
He tells the group that they're gonna make their way to Stephanie and they all load up the wagons and begin the journey. On the way,one of the troops tries to ease Michonne's nerves when a group of walkers approach. More recon proves it to be a full swarm, and as the troops mow them down, Michonne and Eugene seem impressed with their efficiency. Lance in contrast is equally impressed with their demeanor as they press on, leaving the infantry to continue taking out the zombies.
Some things'll never change. |
As they near the compound, the group makes note of the stadium. Good enough for concerts and sports. All in all, 50 thousand people apparently live in the Commonwealth. When they get closer, the group asks about a massive photowall. Lance tells them it's for finding their missing dead but it seems to fade from importance as time goes on.
The issue wraps with Eugene noticing something. He calls Michone and tells her to look. On the wall is hundreds of photos, one of which is clearly interesting. There stands a photo of Michonne, clearly dated but asking if anyone has "seen my mom" - signed Elodie at the bakery. Could this be Michonne's long lost daughter? Is the Commonwealth all it's cracked up to be? We'll have to wait and see as this issue is left to be continued.
But don't you believe them... |
As both a fan of the TV series and comics as well, it never ceases to amaze me at how many differences there are. True it might be irritating for some, but for me, it's pretty cool. There are indeed two different realities for this group of characters, both almost as similar from each other as they are separate. Obviously this sets up for the Commonwealth to be introduced on the series. When that is though is anybody's guess. I give this one a 10/10.
