“Rabbits” very much continues a trend established in the premiere of Cassie making inexplicably stupid decisions, but at least here they mean something, kind of, since she’s actually working to unravel whatever kind of criminal conspiracy she has accidentally embroiled herself in. Of course, she’s doing so against the advice of both her lawyer and the FBI, but I guess she’s just impulsive.

She’s also, at least as of this episode, haunted by hallucinations of Alex, which is a fun gimmick, gives Cuoco plenty to play against, and also justifies — sort of — each of her brazen investigatory ideas, one of which here is to visit Alex’s office posing as someone else in order to dig up information on the woman he was scheduled to meet with at the Bangkok hotel where he died. This is classic gumshoeing business, but the difference in The Flight Attendant is that Cassie isn’t great at it and knocks over a giant statue on her way out.

There’s also the matter of her professional relationships, since Megan (Rosie Perez) is privy to far too much information for Cassie’s excuses and outright lies to hold any water, and it’s beginning to not only make Cassie look much more suspicious but also to alienate her potential allies. A trend begins here in “Rabbits” of Cassie listening to the dead guy in her head much more than anyone else, which is how she finds herself confessing all to the FBI against Annie’s advice… except the crucial piece of information that Alex was dead when she woke up and left. Lying about that crucial detail only puts Cassie in more of a pickle.

You have to imagine cornering Alex’s old colleagues at bars won’t help either, though. Cassie does that to try and have a second run-up after drawing far too much attention to herself by shattering a priceless art installation in the office, and the fact it works out in her favour seems more a stroke of luck than anything else. Still, it means we have a name, Miranda, who is absolutely crucial to everything going on. A success, then? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
