Fantastic Four #7

HERALD OF DOOM pt II

Written by Dan Slott
Penciled by Aaron Kuder
Published Feb 27, 2019

As Galactus looms, Dr Doom enlists the Fantastic Four to help with his grand plan. Being attracted to Doom’s herald Zora as a curious energy source, Torch flies up to save her but instead powers the world devour by accident. Eventually they come up with a plan to defeat him, but by no surprise Doom turns on the FF and sentences them to die. But what’ll happen next? Dan Slott continues his epic run on this series which was completely expected. Aaron Kuder’s previous work on Guardians of the Galaxy just helps prop this up to be one of the best collective books Marvel has right now. I give this one a 10/10.

Daredevil #2

KNOW FEAR pt II

Written by Chip Zdarsky
Penciled by Marco Checchetto
Published Feb 27, 2019

Daredevil struggles with the fact he somehow killed a perp, but after questioning the man's ER doctor, is no closer to finding out if he was setup. Meanwhile, Detective Cole meets with Mayor Fisk to tell him he's on the case, something that seems to threaten the Kingpin. The issue ends with the newest man on the case getting an incredibly lucky shot on the man without fear, and Daredevil looks to be down for the count. This new creative team continues to build a brand new narrative for our favorite lawyer superhero. I give this one a 9/10.

Captain America #8

CAPTAIN OF NOTHING pt II

Written by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Penciled by Adam Kubert
Published Feb 27, 2019

Alexa Lukin frees some imposter “Captain America” while the real Avenger is forced to come face to face with his former enemies in prison. Meanwhile Sharon Carter tries to convince the Kingpin she has something on him, which convinces him to give her a flash drive. The issue ends with Selene killing the Wrecker, who was disguised as the other Cap... I think, as the Daughters of Liberty plan their latest move. Will it be enough to save them real Captain America? Ta-Nehisi Coates hits his first stumbling block to me, as this issue didn’t exactly gel enough for me to follow it. I still like where they’re trying to go though, which earns it a 7/10.

Amazing Spider-Man #16

HUNTED prelude

Written by Nick Spencer
Penciled by Ryan Ottley
Published Feb 27, 2019

Kraven’s last son returns to his father with news he’s slaughtered all the rest of his heirs. In response, Kraven shows him a world where scores of animals are slaughtered by poachers and sport hunters. In response, he plans a celebrity hunt of several super villains, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In secret, he shows his son hundreds of cells full of random D-list heroes as well. How will Spidey save the day? Nick Spencer kicks Hunted off with a nice backstory to get things started, with great art from Ryan Ottley. I give this one an 8/10.

Uncanny X-Men #12

THIS IS FOREVER pt II

Written by Matthew Rosenberg
Penciled by Salvador Larroca
Published Feb 20, 2019

Cyclops and Wolverine break into the government facility holding a few auxiliary X-Men. They systematically work their way through the prison until the find Havok acting as a battery. After freeing him, one of Jamie Madrox’s clones is holding a bomb and explodes, but luckily Strong Guy absorbs the brunt of it. Magik teleports them away and General Calahan ends the book by officially declaring the X-Men back. Matthew Rosenberg continues his new historic run with this book with amazing pencils from former Star Wars penciler Salvador Larroca. I give this one a 10/10.

Eddie continues in his tortuous dream state, while the Maker keeps trying to remove the symbiote. While the pain keeps him stressed, he sees his sister Mary as well as scores of other painful memories. But it’s during a confrontation with his alien counterpart that he realizes his little brother Dylan is actually his son. But can he free himself from the evil Reed Richards before it’s too late? Cates and Stegman stay the course on an amazing story, and I give this one a 9/10.
