Spider-Man #6

   The issue opens with Fabio telling Miles to not be mad at Ganke for spilling his secret. The two of them sit discussing the hardships of being a superhero while Jessica Jones sits across the street photographing everything. She takes meticulous notes about Miles being an Avenger, talking with Goldballs, and having a secret identity before being ran off by the school principle. Later he sits in his dorm when Ganke comes in lamenting the woes of being a teenager in love. Suddenly Miles phone rings. Tony Stark tells him to meet outside.
   High above the city, Iron Man explains to Spider-Man that there's going to be a way over the Inhumans' Ulysses, the Ultimates, and everyone in between. Tony tells him this guy just gives his interpretation of a dangerous future and Captain Marvel is running with it.. Hoping to swing Spidey's support to his side, they agree to followup.  Meanwhile, Miles' mother talks with his dad about her mothers' incessant meddling. She hired a private investigator and she's determined to end the surveillance.
   Ms. Morales goes to the office of Jessica Jones and offers to pay her off. Jessica explains that she isn't at liberty to cancel her contract, and somehow during their conversation, Miles' mother is convinced she knows something. She tearfully asks Jessica to reveal her son's secret and with that, we're left to be continued.
   Pretty good issue. I know Miles Morales is supposed to be the modern day urban take on Peter Parker and I get the vibe some of these stories are meant to mimic their classic counterparts. Thaqt being the case, Bendis does well to imagine the superhero in a different light and it certainly makes for interesting reading. I give this one an 8/10.

All New X-Men #11

   Evan and En Sabah make their way out into the desert to save young Beast after having seen in a vision an image of the X-Man being tortured. Being torn between preventing the evolution of Apocalypse and saving his friend, he rides into the valley and they untie Hank. Suddenly the mystic appears, using a spell on En Sabah rendering him unconscious and transporting them away from the desert. Evan and Beast are attacked, but being enraged, Evan makes quick work of them and later Hank reminds him this isn't over. They still need to find a way home.
   Refusing to leave his friend behind, Evan tears away from Hank towards the sandstormers. He lunges and attacks En Sabah's father, who turns out to be a pretty relentless foe. Henry uses the diversion to go into the Mystic's tent to steal back the eye of Horus - Doctor Strange's weird relic that got them there in the first place. He makes a deal with the Mystic and gets the eye back. Outside, Evan is taking a beating. Henry jumps into the fight with the eye, transporting them back to the magical X-Winnebago of the present. Henry is glad to be back and tries to tell Evan something he saw during their transport.. But Kid Apocalypse is heartbroken. He throws the eye across the room and the issue comes to an end.
   I've about had enough of Apocalypse in these books. It's like the ultimate retread, spilling into All New X-Men which is clearly just a filler book and barely moves the needle. While it's still well-written and has spectacular art, I'm ready to move on. It looks like Evan is too. I give this one an 8/10.

Daredevil #9

   Perched high atop a casino in Macau, Daredevil and Spider-Man put their casino heist in action. They invade the high roller floor en masse and gunfire ensues. Their target is a briefcase full of secrets, and unfortunately they can't get their hands on it before one of the gangsters escapes to his helicopter bound for Hong Kong.
   The two heroes ski behind a hydrofoil on their way to the city. Once there Spider-Man reveals that he's had a tracer on the briefcase all along. They swing up to a gigantic skyscraper and another fight ensues. This time, the case is theirs for the taking. Spidey grabs the case and flees while Daredevil mops up the rest of the baddies. Once finished, they meet up outside but Spider-Man is a bit reluctant to give him the case back. Seems curiousity has gotten the best of the webcrawler.
   It seems there's some holes in Spider-Man's memory when it comes to the man without fear, and he doesn't understand why. Daredevil explains that he did something to regain his secret identity, and the info in the case contains plans to foil the Black Cat, Kingpin, The Owl, The Hood, Tombstone, Mr. Negative, and tons of other villains. That's enough for Spidey, who tells him to watch out for this "black costume phase" Daredevil is going through and takes off. With that, the issue comes to an end.
   I don't know if there could be a more perfect comic book than these types. I know Daredevil isn't a big seller but it really should be. Good art and writing make it an easy read and pretty much everything I love about comic books. I give this one a 10/10.

Star Wars #21

   Told from the perspective of one of the most ruthless stormtroopers in the galaxy, General Kreel recounts his life. Born on Chagar X into a life revolving around the fighting pits, things were never the same once he saw his first stormtrooper. Now he leads a platoon onto the now abandoned Ghost Moon hoping to avoid an ambush. The scar squad splits up and fires upon the rebel terrorists, killing as many as possible. Kreel worked his way up through the academy, losing friends to the alliance on the way and today kills every rebel he possibly can.
   Aero hotwires an old speeder and he and Kreel take out some mercs before getting blown off of it. They regroup and head down an old sewer tunnel. Kreel is pulled underwater by a sewer squid but just adding even more to his near legendary status, he pops back up and shreds the monster. Before long they advance upon another group of rebels they blast away. After awhile, the enemy pinpoints them and lowers a plasma cannon under the surface. They fire and the storm trooper team goes flying. As Kreel mentions, he never explained to his group where he's from or what he's done but along the way, he's picked up a few tricks. One of them being a light saber. He slices the barrel off the cannon and his troopers are awestruck. Finally he counts all of the rebel crew and they're accounted for.. finally glancing their target - Admiral Sitrep. He looks at his squad, announces it won't take long to crack him and the rebel computers, and with that the issue ends.
   I've been on a real Star Wars kick lately as I got two issues in the mail pretty much silmiltaneously. As luck would have it, the last one on my review list was this one and luckily none of the stories overlap. My kids are huge into the movies right now and I'm having a blast recapping them all.. To be able to bolster it with these comics makes it even better. I give this one a 9/10.

Star Wars #27

      While Luke has to cope without R2D2, he turns to Ben Kenobi's old journal and reads a story from the early days of Master Yoda. He's found himself on an alien planet inhabited by children. Afraid that he's a monster conjured up by their apparent rivals, they attack him. He's able to fend off their spears but can feel the force in their tips which is troubling. What is this planet and what does it hold?
   Yoda explains to the children that he's a teacher. He sees them as warriors and after some discussions, they see him as a kind of savior. They bring him to their home and introduce him to the skyscreamers - a team of children who swallow small pieces of the sacred rock and then scream to the sky for help. Realizing that this was the calling he felt, the children tell him their origins. They once lived in harmony but some factions became greedy. Their side lost the enduing battle and they were cast out to the muddy side of the mysterious mountain. Recently they captured a spy and Yoda convinces them to free him, allowing him to return the spy to the others in an act of goodwill.
   Once he gets close enough, he tells them he seeks peace. But the "Rockhawkers" question him, accusing him of tricks and declare him an enemy. They attack him and he loses consciousness. When he awakes, he's in chains. The children tell him he must walk into the mountain and find it's heart. Only then will they free him. Yoda knows what he must do. He begins his ascent to the mountain top and with that, the issue is left to be continued.
   A very interesting tale indeed, this certainly helps to further cement Yoda as truly the galaxy's greatest Jedi. How he plans to escape this time should be interesting. I give this issue a 9/10.

Civil War II #3

   Matt Murdock calls Carol Danvers and later Tony Stark to the stand in the Manhattan Federal Courthouse. They recount what happened when they went to confront Bruce Banner on the vision Ulysses saw. He denied it was possible but stepping outside, sees the Avengers, Inhumans, X-Men, and Ultimates waiting to stop him if necessary. He continues to resist in shock when Beast comes out with news - Banner has been experimenting on himself with treated dead gamma cells. As his voice rises, an arrow suddenly comes flying from the trees, piercing Bruce Banner's back as he falls dead on the grass. Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, holds out his wrists in surrender - and today sits as the accused in the courtroom.   Barton tells the court that he did it because Bruce had asked him to. Months before, they'd met at a bar and Banner had given him the lethal arrowhead, making him promise to strike him down if the Hulk were to ever emerge again. Later on as Henry McCoy is called to the stand, he testifies that the arrowhead was in fact designed by Bruce Banner as well as a video from him asking Clint Barton to kill him. Carol Danvers goes on to remind the court that they've been using Ulysses to stop crimes before they start. Tony gets angry at Murdock for not asking the right questions... This is all Danver's fault. This entire situation has escalated because of her.   The issue ends with the judge about to read the verdict. Mary Jane asks Tony if he's interested to which he replies he is not. Suddenly Friday, Stark's artificial intelligence announces to them that she's cracked the code on how Ulysses's mind works. Tony and MJ react in horror and with that, the issue comes to a close.   This is really starting to get good. It's finally starting to make sense as to why there's so much animosity between these bands of heroes and Bendis is doing a stellar job of explaining why. Does Hawkeye go to jail? Does Tony now see the future? I guess we'll find out next issue but for this one, I give it a 9/10.

All New X-Men #18

   Young Cyclops is used to being the quiet type - but it's time for his leadership abilities to shine. He attacks the Inhuman capital New Attilan, fending off a fire blast from Inferno with help from old Iceman. When he rounds the corner, he asks himself what's he even doing there. Thanks to his old self destroying the original Terrigen Cloud, he's seen as a criminal. He has barely a second to consider this before Medusa captures him. She;s looking for information from the young X-Man before being interrupted by Magneto throwing metal at her. Not knowing what else to do, he goes back to Muir Island with the rest of his teammates to regroup.
   Walking inside, nobody knows what to think of him and he knows it. He walks off to brood before Angel comes up and offers him some advice. Walking away, he's suddenly possessed by the Inhuman Mosaic who uses him to presumably steal the Blackbird. Young Cyclops is trapped in his own brain among memories. Eventually he runs into a gigantic Magneto helmet, which was left inside from an earlier mostly unsuccessful attempt to possess the master of magnetism. He falls inside it and sees images of Magneto's evolution before settling on a conversation between Magneto and Emma Frost. In it, he sees his older self's dead body. Emma explains the plan - to blame the entire war on Cyclops as an active participant. Since he's dead, he has no way to dispute it. More importantly, he was killed by M-Pox, not Blackbolt. He plans his revenge on Frost and with that, the issue comes to a close.
   This book is one of the gems of the X-Universe. Well written and crisp art, I've enjoyed this title since it's inception in previous volumes just as I do today. This particular issue was outstandingly written and I can't wait to see where they go with it. I give it a 10/10.
